Cothill School is to sponsor the feature race of the Heythrop Hunt’s Cocklebarrow Races on Sunday January 22nd 2023, the first time the school has ventured into horseracing.

The Cothill School Lord Ashton of Hyde’s Men’s Open Race is one of the Point-to-Point scene’s most valuable races, and one of just 7 races permitted to carry more than the usual maximum £1,000 in prize money, and the fifth race of seven programmed, starting at noon.

Charlie Brooks, Chair of the Cocklebarrow Races Committee, and an alumnus of the school himself, commented, “We’re chuffed that Cothill has seen fit to sponsor at Cocklebarrow. The crowd includes many parents and alumni, like myself, and we look forward to welcoming even more this time around. I only wish we’d been permitted to go racing in my school days! Sadly, it was during a less enlightened regime!”

Duncan Bailey, Headmaster of Cothill House School, added, “There is plenty of racing interest among our parents and pupils at Cothill already. After 150 years as a dedicated and successful prep boarding school, we have now opened applications for day places from September 2023. We shall be looking to spread the word among existing and prospective parents through the Races of our new options. We remain dedicated to providing a first class education and an amazing range of opportunities outside the classroom, of which the races are but one fine example.”
